The MSAD 51 School Board voted unanimously to accept the policy committee’s recommendation to continue using the name 'Tuttletown' for the Mabel I. Wilson (MIW) school playground.
Board members described the selection as the outcome of a multistep process. A committee solicited name suggestions from students and staff, narrowed choices through a leadership team and returned a ranked set of options for classroom review; more than 50 possibilities were considered before the committee and student representatives recommended 'Tuttletown.' Corey, who attended the policy committee meeting, explained the process and said the committee voted unanimously to recommend the name to the full board.
Annika moved to accept the recommendation and Jesse seconded; the board recorded a unanimous voice vote in favor. Board members discussed adding a sign or community ribbon-cutting and suggested involving students or local woodworkers to create a permanent marker. The vote satisfied policy FF’s requirement that the board formally approve naming decisions. The board did not attach additional conditions to the approval beyond the policy process already followed.
