MSAD 51 board approves student French exchange trip

The MSAD 51 School Board unanimously approved a proposed French student exchange after a presentation by Kim McDonald and Taylor Poulin. The program would send about 15–20 students to Confolon, France for two weeks and host French students in Greeley High School in return.
During the presentation McDonald described logistics: a couple of nights in Paris, train travel to the host town, placement with host families, and cost items covered by the trip (flights, hotels, some meals and excursions). She told the board the trip has historically been priced around $3,200 per student and said staff will work with families on fundraising and financial assistance where needed. A board member moved to approve the trip “as presented,” another board member seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Board members asked about student eligibility and language proficiency; presenters said the exchange targets students in grades 10–12 with sufficient French proficiency and that a small number of ninth graders have participated previously. The board did not attach new conditions to the approval; administrators will proceed with organizing the trip and any outreach to families.
