Ogden Valley Planning Commission elects Waltner chair; Barber named vice chair

Legal counsel and commissioners reviewed the commission's term-limit provisions and midterm appointment rules before voting. Counsel said the rules allow members who previously served to be eligible again after a qualifying interval and explained how partial-year service counts toward term limits. After a period of nominations and discussion about eligibility, Waltner accepted a nomination and was elected to serve as chair until Jan. 1, 2025. Barber declined a chair nomination and accepted nomination for vice chair; Burton was subsequently elected to serve as vice chair until the end of the year under the commission's term-limit interpretation.
Commissioners said the chair's duties include holding a chair-and-vice-chair meeting (typically the Thursday before a meeting) to review agenda items. The commission also clarified internal timing for elections and how partial-year service is treated under the rules.
The commission took the votes by voice and recorded “ayes” for the successful nominees. No formal roll-call tally appeared in the record.
