Organizers and business representatives told the Lehi City Commission that this year’s Renaissance Festival drew heavier attendance and brought substantial foot traffic to downtown businesses, but moving the festival off-site created parking and bussing challenges that the city and event planners plan to address before next year.
An events presenter told commissioners that nearly all chamber-area hotels were full on the festival weekend and that overall attendance was ‘‘about 500 more than last year.’’ Organizers reported positive feedback from vendors about the event location and said they solicited local businesses for on-site participation. Some downtown merchants reported lighter foot traffic if their booths lacked a roof or onsite placement, and one local commenter urged better notification when food trucks or mobile vendors operate near the high school parking area.
Commissioners and event staff discussed possible solutions including shuttle runs from remote parking at Terry Peak, better coordination to avoid date conflicts with other big events, and monthly events-committee meetings open to public input. The events organizer encouraged residents and business owners to follow the chamber’s page for updates and offered an email distribution list to share schedules and volunteer opportunities.
Commissioners thanked organizers for their work and urged them to continue addressing parking, vendor placement, and communication so the festival can accommodate growth without overwhelming downtown parking.
