Elmwood Park officials used the Dec. 19 meeting to recognize local volunteers and youth sports teams and to accept a donation for a veterans memorial.
Coaches and players from the EP Crew soccer program were invited forward and praised by council and the mayor for winning multiple championships in 2024. Coaches provided season highlights and individual coaches and captains were named; council members and the mayor offered congratulations and invited photographs.
Linda Colombini of the homeowners association presented a $3,000 check to support the Vietnam Memorial. Officials said the funds, combined with earlier donations (including a previously-raised $5,000), will cover corrections to the memorial plaque. The council set Jan. 30 as the cutoff date for submitting names for inclusion on the plaque and directed residents to the clerk’s office to provide missing information.
Board of Health president John DiMarzio and members were called forward for recognition of their volunteer work on the borough’s senior celebration and other health efforts. Several volunteers were cited by name, and council liaisons thanked the board for organizing events that serve older residents and other community members.
Council members repeatedly thanked coaches, parents and volunteers for their time and for supporting town programs. Several officials highlighted the role of the recreation department and the police in holiday outreach events and noted the contributions of local businesses and nonprofit partners.
