At its meeting the Trenton Town Council instructed staff to decline a cooperative wildfire assistance/insurance program and received updates from the fire and water representatives about equipment and grant prospects.
Planning and fire staff (Unidentified Speaker (S3)) described the cooperative wildfire program as an optional annual insurance/assistance enrollment with a relatively small annual fee; the council agreed the town would not opt in given local circumstances and directed staff to return a declination. The planning lead characterized the annual fee as 'only like $500 or something' while noting the application process and administrative burden.
Council also heard that a county-provided fire engine replacement had been ordered and is expected to arrive in 2026. Members discussed ownership and insurance: the county will own and maintain the vehicle while assigning it for Trenton's use. Staff said the town does not currently have a ladder truck or bucket truck and that such equipment would be costly to acquire and maintain.
On the water system, staff reported minimal use of the town system during a recent wildland/brush fire and said a contact (Nathan) will reach out with more information about a potential water-impact grant for the west side of town. Council members reiterated the need to pursue grant opportunities and to continue routine water planning.
