Mount Pleasant council approves claims, routine purchases and adopts new subdivision code

Mount Pleasant’s City Council on Nov. 26 approved a slate of routine municipal purchases, adopted an updated subdivision ordinance, and voted to go into closed session on pending litigation.

Council approved the claims register dated Nov. 9–22 totaling $278,734.40 after asking staff for clarifications on coding for a line described as "other wages" and a petty‑cash garnishment. Among the purchase approvals, the council:

- approved a $17,000 buyout of a 2021 leased police truck, with staff noting NADA values near $28,000 and the opportunity to avoid a roughly $7,000 annual lease payment; - approved a Richmond Flooring requisition for $13,317.02 to replace carpet in City Hall; - approved two pad‑mount transformers from Stuart Irby for $4,300 to replenish utility inventory; - amended and approved a $44,941.36 requisition to Alan Curtis & Sons to replace and standardize fire department SCBAs to 4,500 PSI units (staff described older 2,200 PSI bottles as obsolete); - approved smaller equipment purchases including a trench box for $5,475 and a salt spreader for $10,972.92; and - approved a $21,200 contract award to Richton (Rich Clayton Construction) to repair a wing wall on a creek.
