Parks staff reported concrete was poured for Riverwalk light bases and that lighting for a flag display was proposed at an estimated cost of about $988 for a flag light; they also noted several holiday pole lights that either did not work or require rewiring. Council and staff discussed an unpaid invoice question for the Riverwalk lighting work and the larger issue of how to cover an overrun that raised the project cost from a budgeted $17,000 to more than $46,000.
On public safety, a council member summarized the police-board meeting: the department approved a roughly 2% annual merit-raise scale, the new chief is creating positive staff relationships, and the department is exploring a new evidence-management system to organize and track property and evidence more reliably.
Staff committed to follow up on resident service requests mentioned during the meeting and to return with more detailed invoices and scheduling information as requested by council members.
