Fountain Green council approves emergency IT upgrade and new cameras to avoid service cutoff

Fountain Green city council voted to buy replacement IT equipment and cameras after staff warned that the town’s current license and onsite equipment would stop working Dec. 2 without action.

Speaker 8 told the council that the town’s existing Meraki‑based IT and camera system includes software licensing that expires Dec. 2 and that, if not renewed or replaced, phones, cameras and on‑site systems could become unusable. He presented three hardware/camera quality options and said a short‑term payment would buy roughly a year to order and install replacement equipment. Council instructed staff to use the town’s water/sewer reserve (extra water usage fund) to cover the immediate charge and to proceed with ordering and installation.

Why it matters: without action the town could lose camera recordings, phone and building‑automation connectivity tied to the IT system; staff said a renewal quote of roughly $8,500 was one option but full replacement offered advantages including local on‑premise recording and future expandability.
