Castle Valley told to move to a .gov domain; state offers free mail hosting

At the Nov. 20 meeting the council heard that a recent state policy requires local governments to transition their web domains to .gov. A council member said the town's current domain (castlevalleyutah.com) dates to the 1990s and that the deadline had been extended to July.
Two registration routes were described: registering the domain through the State Cyber Center could require a domain with an extra dot (for example, castlevalley.utah.gov), while registering through the federal CISA program could allow the town to retain its existing name but with a .gov suffix. The presenter said either option is free.
The state cyber center also can provide free mail hosting and archival services using Google'based enterprise hosting for government domains, which would provide centralized search and records support for public-records requests. The council asked staff to proceed with registration and to coordinate timing with the cyber center and any existing HostGator contracts.
