Bluff council asks UDOT for speed study near new school and commercial areas

The Bluff Town Council voted unanimously on Dec. 17 to ask the Utah Department of Transportation to perform a speed study on the highway corridor through town, citing new development, the relocated elementary school and pedestrian access to the River Trail.
Council members discussed what information UDOT needs, including school safe-passage plans and where children will cross the highway. Jared Beard (assistant regional director, referenced by the council) and his replacement Cody Marchant were discussed as the UDOT contacts; the council agreed a spring testing window (March–May) would likely capture appropriate traffic conditions.
Members discussed visual measures that could help slow drivers, such as relocating the town entry stones to change drivers’ perception of the town boundary, and the council asked staff to coordinate school-safety input before UDOT conducts counts.
The motion to move forward with a UDOT speed study was made, seconded and approved unanimously at the meeting.
