Montezuma County health official urges residents to avoid group gatherings for 21 days amid COVID-19 spread

"Everyone can play a role in helping to limit the spread of this virus," Aiken said, listing standard precautions including handwashing, covering coughs and staying home when sick. He said the recommendation comes from the Montezuma County multi-agency coordination group.
"In an effort to reduce that spread, we recommend that holding such events in Montezuma County or attending events elsewhere should be avoided for the next 21 days," Aiken said. He characterized the guidance as a public-health recommendation, not a legal order.
Aiken said the recommendation will undergo regular review and that officials will keep the public updated as conditions change. No enforcement mechanism, formal vote or ordinance was announced during the briefing.
