Denali Borough schedules March 12 mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic; registration open

Mayor Clay Walker announced on March 1 that the Denali Borough will host its first mass COVID-19 vaccination clinic Friday, March 12, at the Tri Valley Community Center, offering first doses of the two-shot Moderna vaccine and a second-dose clinic scheduled for April 9.
"We have about over 400 doses to give out on that day," Walker said, noting the appointment listing began with 440 slots and that 372 remained available at the time he spoke. The clinic will operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Walker walked listeners through the state registration process, saying residents should start at the state coronavirus website, click the vaccine page, take the eligibility quiz and then select appointments. He also provided a phone option for residents without internet access: the state registration line at (907) 646-3322.
The mayor said seniors have been receiving shots locally, estimating "about 200 shots given here at the Healy Clinic" and "over a hundred down in Cantwell," and that some residents have traveled to Fairbanks for appointments. Walker said he had signed up and planned to receive his first dose at the March 12 clinic.
Local partners organizing or supporting the event, as named by Walker, include ICHC, the Healy Clinic, the Tri Valley Volunteer Fire Department and the National Park Service. Walker said public-health nurses will provide medical backing and that the clinic is sponsored by public health.
"It's a big step forward in putting the coronavirus pandemic behind us," Walker said, urging residents to take advantage of the local opportunity and saying he hoped the state would open eligibility to more groups before the March 12 clinic.
The borough encouraged residents to check the state appointment listings for Tri Valley Community Center time slots and to plan to attend the April 9 second-dose clinic if they register for March 12. Walker closed the broadcast by reminding listeners of the March 12 date and wishing the community well.
