Commission recognizes longtime employee Opal Hauck’s 100th birthday; parks design reveal and holiday trash schedule announced

The Huron City Commission used public forum on Nov. 17 to recognize Opal Hauck, a former city employee who will turn 100 on Nov. 23. An unidentified speaker noted Hauck worked for the city for 28 years, presented her with flowers and called her service a testament to the community.
Parks and Recreation Department Head John invited residents to an informational meeting at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 19 in the Blackburn Room to see landscape design concepts from the South Dakota State University landscape architecture program for Gibbs Park and Stony Run Park and to provide community feedback.
Commissioner Klute and the solid waste department announced holiday service details: the final week for grass collection is Nov. 17–20; green cans will be emptied on regular trash days and the free yard-waste site on 4th Street SE remains open; the solid waste office will be closed Nov. 27–29 for Thanksgiving. Thursday and Friday routes for the Thanksgiving week will be run on Wednesday, Nov. 26, and residents were asked to place containers out the night before as trucks will not be rerouted.
Commissioners and attendees thanked Hauck for her service and encouraged community attendance at the parks meeting.
