South Plainfield council adopts two ordinances, approves park lighting grant and $5.9M in bills

The South Plainfield Borough Council voted unanimously to adopt two ordinances and a package of resolutions, and authorized payment of $5,916,304.30 in municipal bills during its meeting.

Council President Benjovanga moved the motion to adopt Ordinance 23-33, described in the meeting as “an ordinance amending chapter 352 of the code of the Borough of South Plainfield… entitled Sewers.” Councilman White seconded the motion; the clerk called the roll and announced a 6–0 vote in favor. No public comments were offered on the ordinance before the vote.

The council also adopted Ordinance 23-34, a capital ordinance authorizing capital improvements that include a new roof at the South Plainfield Senior Center, 90 Maple Avenue. The ordinance was moved for final adoption, the clerk called the roll, and the council recorded a unanimous 6–0 vote.

In a batch vote, the council approved Resolutions 24-365 through 24-380. During discussion, a speaker noted that half the cost of Resolution 24-380—funding for lighting at Ponytail Park on Pitt Street, improvements at the South Pavilion Municipal Complex, and upgrades to lights at Southwark—will be paid through a Middlesex County open-space grant. The batch of resolutions passed on a 6–0 recorded vote.

Council also approved payment of bills totaling $5,916,304.30 after a motion by Councilman Bullock, seconded by Councilman White; the clerk reported a 6–0 vote in favor.

No individual amendments to the ordinances or resolutions were recorded in the public portion of the meeting, and no public comments were made during the adoption periods. The presiding officer then moved the meeting into executive session; the presiding officer stated no further public action was expected from that session.
