Peoria Unified keeps performance pay levels, adopts minimal changes to fee schedule

The Peoria Unified School District governing board voted to keep the district’s performance pay awards unchanged and to adopt a largely unchanged fee schedule for the 2017–18 school year.

Mr. Hicks summarized the classroom site fund and performance‑pay mechanics created under Prop 301. He said the administration recommends keeping certified teacher performance pay at $2,600 per teacher and administrative performance pay at $2,050 — the same amounts as the prior year. The board approved the recommendation by motion and voice vote (5–0).

The board then considered the course, extracurricular and parking fee schedule. Mr. Hicks said most fees are unchanged year‑to‑year: high‑school participation fees remain $100 per activity (with a $200 maximum per family); elementary athletics remain $25 (with a $50 family max). The administration added a fee for beginning and advanced weight training to pay for repair and replacement of equipment; facility rental rates were updated to include stadium rentals with and without lights. Principals retain authority to waive fees for documented hardship. Several board members voiced concern about pay‑to‑play equity and the burden on low‑income families; administration reiterated that principals have waiver authority and that the policy allows for hardship exemptions.

The board approved the fee schedule by motion; the vote passed 5–0.
