City staff told the council that legal review removed references to the officer being a ‘‘school official’’ so the agreement aligns with state definitions; staff said the officer will remain an ‘‘interested official’’ to retain access to necessary information. The school board also agreed to provide lunches for the officer so the officer can be present during student lunch periods.
The resolution was moved, seconded and approved on roll call.
The contract follows the pattern of previous agreements with statutory language adjusted as required; staff said the changes are primarily technical and the arrangement is otherwise familiar.
Next steps: city and school staff will finalize the agreement and implement the officer assignment under the revised language.
