Residents Press Edison Council on Camera/Zoom Access and Meeting Decorum as Several Speakers Are Removed

A large contingent of residents used public comment to press the township for greater transparency and remote access after several recent changes to how meetings are streamed.

Charlie Cradaville of New Brunswick Today and other speakers said Edison TV no longer shows podium speakers and asked why the public cannot see or scrub to particular speakers on the video. Residents said hard‑of‑hearing and disabled viewers rely on shots of the speaker to read lips and follow testimony. Multiple commenters noted that Zoom access and some previously posted videos are no longer available and said the loss of remote access raises ADA and OPRA concerns.

Council and administration representatives said the streaming camera angle is an administrative choice and that they are "trying different angles;" the administration offered to look into restoring speaker shots and remote access. Council members said they would raise the issue with administration and intended to discuss it in future council comments.

The public comment session included strongly worded remarks and profanity from several speakers; the council repeatedly enforced chamber decorum rules. Moderators paused and, in at least one case, directed officers to remove a speaker who continued to use violent or profane language after warnings. Other speakers raised the prospect of legal action for disabling Zoom/remote access and for accommodating disabled residents.

The council closed public comment after an extended period and moved to adjourn. Several council members urged improved postings (for committee vacancies) and clearer communication about streaming and records access.
