Board approves flexible DEU timing, allowing teachers to start coursework immediately after last record-keeping day

The Wisconsin Rapids School District Board approved a revision to the supplemental pay plan that changes when teachers may begin counting District Education Unit (DEU) coursework. The Quality Educator Committee proposed the change and presented it to the board as a way to give teachers flexibility to complete coursework while material is still fresh.
Under the approved change, teachers may begin a DEU the day after the district's last record-keeping day (for example, if the last day is June 5, DEU coursework may begin on June 6). Teachers who complete the work may opt to count those hours toward the current school year or the following year; different teachers may make different elections for the same course depending on individual needs and bookkeeping preferences.
Committee presenters said the change responds to multiple teacher requests and was unanimously recommended by the QEC. The board moved, seconded and approved the change during new business.
