Planner Miss Jennings told the Athens Planning Commission the city met earlier that day with Ohio University about a proposed mid‑sized performing arts venue. She provided commissioners an 8x11 or 11x17 site plan and said the university will likely return with a full application around February 2025.
"This is their new proposed ... performing arts center," Miss Jennings said, describing it as smaller than the larger campus venues and intended to provide an alternate performance site. Staff and commissioners discussed parking demand and the university's approach to managing evening event parking, with the planner noting the building's highest parking needs will likely occur outside normal business hours.
The planner did not ask the commission to act at the Dec. 4 meeting; instead, the briefing was presented so commissioners could review the concept before a formal application is filed.
