Dr. Durham accepted the recognition and told the council she was "so honored and humbled," describing playing with Olympian Milt Campbell and recalling her early tennis experiences in Jersey City and Plainfield. A family member added historical context about the racial and civil‑rights landscape of the era, noting that Dr. Durham’s success as a Black woman athlete carried particular significance in the 1960s and 1970s.
Council members praised the resolution and agreed to present a copy to Dr. Durham to symbolize the council’s gratitude. The item was added to the voting meeting for final passage later in the session.
