The New Berlin Planning Commission unanimously approved architecture review and a parking expansion for an addition to the Sri Lakshmi temple at 3800 S. Racine Avenue.
Staff presented the proposed amendment to construct an approximately 4,800-square-foot building addition and a 28-space parking lot. Staff said the project had been reviewed previously in 2022; construction had started but the contractor subsequently left the job. The current submission replaces the previously proposed EIFS material with a limestone-like material, and the applicant intends to construct the larger 28-space south parking lot with landscaping to serve the addition.
Architecture Review recommended approval of the revised materials and staff included a waiver in the packet because the city's code does not cleanly map to this specific temple occupancy type—parking requirements are based on seats or patrons rather than the building type used here. Staff noted that if parking becomes insufficient the applicant may need to provide additional stalls.
A commissioner moved to approve the architecture and the associated waiver; the motion was seconded and the commission voted unanimously in favor.
The decision authorizes the proposed architecture and parking improvements as presented; staff and the applicant will proceed with next steps in permitting and construction oversight.
