Parks crews, lighting and winter programs: Oakdale staff outline operations and upcoming events

On operations, he said crews have been cleaning parks and installing holiday lighting and that temporary warming houses are expected soon at Eastside and Walton parks. Regarding the athletic field lighting project, Jeff reported materials have been delivered to the installer but major equipment work will wait until the ground freezes to avoid damaging fields and irrigation systems; the delay follows supply impacts from recent storms that affected deliveries.
On recreation and events, staff recapped the 2024 community walk (86 registered walkers), the indoor Discovery Center market (20+ vendors weekly through March 22), the Art Discovery Fair (Nov. 23), Santa’s mailbox letter collection (Dec. 2–15), the Santa fire-truck route (Dec. 11), and Winter Wonderland (Dec. 21) which drew over 1,000 participants last year. Staff also announced snowshoe rentals, ice-rink scheduling, snow-sculpture and gingerbread house contests, and rink/warming-house programming details and rental availability.
Commissioners used the updates to raise timing and usage questions (for example, how nonresident field users should be managed if out-of-town teams use Oakdale fields) and to thank staff for work on the recently opened Willowbrook Commons.
