Council backs applying for CDBG funding and considers placing Narcan in AED boxes

Village staff told the council Dec. 4 that for the first time a portion of Ridgewood is eligible for direct Community Development Block Grant funding and that engineering staff plan to apply for $450,000 to install sanitary-sewer liners to extend pipe lifespan.
Village Manager Keith said the endorsement would be considered formally by resolution next week and that staff will reach out to community contacts to support the application and community outreach. "If the council endorses this grant application...I will have Carol in my office reach out to Vanessa at Millennium Strategies who's helping to prepare this application," he said.
Separately, the director of health, Dawn Santrulo, recommended a resolution to place naloxone (Narcan) in the village’s AED boxes. Staff said the Narcan boxes would be purchased with opioid-settlement funds so the change would not affect the municipal budget.
Council members congratulated staff on the CDBG eligibility and offered to assist with neighborhood outreach; both measures were presented as items requiring formal resolution and next-step action at the next public meeting.
