Local landscape architect donates $6,038 Garber Square renovation; council to accept donation next week

Blythe Yost, owner and landscape architect at Rockfield Landscape, told the Village Council Dec. 4 she will donate a renovation to the Garber (Carver) Square site near the train station, covering soil prep, plants, labor and maintenance. Parks & Recreation Director Nancy Bigos said the village memo estimates the value of the gift at $6,038.
"She will be responsible for the renovation...the soil prep, the individual plant, the labor, and the maintenance to this site," Bigos said. Council members thanked Yost for the contribution and described it as a welcome improvement to a partially neglected corner near downtown.
Staff informed the council that a resolution to accept the donation appears in the meeting packet and will be scheduled for formal acceptance at next week’s public meeting (agenda item 94). While staff and the donor discussed plant ordering timelines, formal acceptance and any village responsibilities will be completed when the council votes on the resolution.
Council members encouraged continued volunteer involvement and welcomed Yost’s offer to participate in future events such as Project Pride. The donation will be processed as a gift pending the council’s formal acceptance.
