The Rochester Board of Ethics on May 6 appointed Daniel Fitzpatrick as its chair and adopted rules of order for conducting board business.
A board member nominated Fitzpatrick for chair, another member seconded, and members present approved the nomination by voice vote. After the appointment, the newly presiding chair led the board through a motion to adopt ‘proper rules of order’ for its procedures; that motion was seconded and carried.
The moves formalize leadership and meeting procedures for the newly convened board. Members present at roll call included Sarah Harrington, Daniel Fitzpatrick, John LaRochelle and Katie Ambrose (the transcript records Ambrose as a non-voting member). The board did not record roll-call vote tallies beyond voice approval during the meeting.
The board’s organizational actions concluded quickly so it could turn to pending ethics matters on the agenda. With the chair appointed and rules adopted, the board set the stage for a staff-recommended investigation of two ethics complaints that staff said had been received by the city on April 23 and found sufficient for further investigation on April 25.
The meeting was adjourned after the board completed these organizational items.
