West Windsor proclaims Communities of Light Day for Woman's Space; tree lighting and drone show set for Dec. 8

Mayor Hamant Morate read a proclamation Nov. 25 recognizing Woman's Space for decades of crisis intervention and shelter services and proclaimed Dec. 2, 2024, as Communities of Light Day to raise funds for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.
"Now therefore be it resolved that Mayor Hamant Morate and the township council, West Windsor Township, county of Mercer, state of New Jersey do hereby proclaim 12/02/2024 as Communities of Light Day," the proclamation states. Gay Huber, a long-time member of Woman's Space, was present as the council honored the organization’s work.
Council and staff also highlighted holiday events: a tree-lighting ceremony and the township's first drone light show at Ron Rogers Arboretum on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m., with a performance by High School South and refreshments sponsored by McCaffrey's Market. Parks & Rec events that same day include Breakfast with Santa at Station 43 and a nearby buy-nothing exchange at Dutch Neck Church.
Why it matters: The proclamation recognizes a local nonprofit’s service and promotes fundraising and community awareness. The new drone show replaces a fireworks display that will not be held because of drought conditions, according to council remarks.
Next steps: Residents were encouraged to display luminaries on Dec. 2 as a visible show of support; Parks & Rec will run the Dec. 8 events and the administration provided registration and timing details during the meeting.
