Members recalled that CMLP historically allocated about $10,000 annually to the trust but noted that the trust’s current fund balance appears low. "I think our we currently have, like, $780 left in it," Speaker 2 said.
Shannon and Wendy (Speaker 6) said calendar-year CMLP budgets are reviewed in the fall and that new funds would become available in January; the committee asked Shannon to follow up with CMLP and town counsel to confirm whether transfers or internal account movements are legally permissible before finalizing disbursement plans.
Annual appeal and mailing: The committee reviewed draft language for the annual appeal letter and agreed to add concrete examples of assistance (scholarships, rent help, car repairs, dental and vision care, camperships) and to remove outdated COVID-specific wording. Members discussed whether to send the letter to prior donors or to a full townwide mailing and concluded this year would be townwide. Concord Printing was identified as the vendor for printing and mail; committee members asked Shannon to obtain an estimate and confirm whether postage and mailing charges should be drawn from the Selectman's account or allocated across funds.
Why it matters: Confirming CMLP transfers and clarifying funding sources affects how much discretionary aid the trust can deliver, especially over the winter when demand increases. The committee noted the trustees of town donations will present their allocated funds at a Dec. 5 meeting and that a representative (the treasurer) will attend.
