The Historic Districts Commission continued action on Robert Fleming's application to replace three windows in a bay at 92 Walden Street and advised the applicant to consider full wood replacement windows rather than fiberglass insert units.
Fleming said he reduced the original application from eight windows to three and cited thermal performance concerns: "There are a tremendous heat loss... they are single pane glass." Commissioners who visited the site generally concluded the bay windows appear to be 1880s vintage and recommended preservation-minded approaches.
Several commissioners suggested that removing the entire existing sash and frame and installing a new wood Marvin-style window would preserve the bay's apparent size while improving insulation and eliminating the need for external storm windows. One commissioner described that option as providing "more glass and better... energy performance." Fleming said he had explored custom wood options but that some manufacturers no longer produce the exact sash packs he had expected; the commission advised him to return with product cut sheets for a wood window solution.
A continuance motion was passed to allow Fleming to submit revised documentation for review. The commission's guidance favors a full-frame wood window that maintains the bay's visual proportions if Fleming seeks approval.
