Concord pollinator committee approves minutes, plans winter sow and charge update

Members of the Town of Concord Pollinator Advisory Committee accepted draft minutes, set upcoming event dates and follow-up tasks, and mapped next steps to update the panel’s charge.

Speaker 1 asked if members were ready to accept the minutes; Speaker 4 responded "We accept the minutes," and Speaker 2 seconded. The minutes will be filed with the town clerk.

On events, Speaker 4 confirmed winter-sow setup at noon and a public session starting at 1 p.m. on Jan. 11 at Barrel Farms, with registration handled through the library. Speaker 4 also noted coordinated activities with the Council on Aging and the Housing Authority on Jan. 23; the committee discussed parking and room access at the Peter Buckley Center.

Committee members reported follow-up on site visits and native-plant installations: Speaker 4 described a visit to a resident on Munson Road where milkweed roots were dropped to establish a pollinator meadow and reported additional pollinator plantings at Great Meadows and the Buttrick Mansion. Members agreed to create a sign recognizing native-plant gardeners and set a Dec. 1 deadline for cost research; Speaker 3 agreed to look for low-cost sign suppliers and mounting hardware.

The committee also discussed membership and reappointments. Speaker 4 noted members must be named by the Select Board and identified Mark Howell as the Select Board liaison; the group identified one vacancy and said they would follow up with potential candidates, including Brian Hutchins and Jim Tull.

Logistics and next meetings: The committee confirmed a regular December meeting on Dec. 10 and set a January 23 meeting from 5 to 6 p.m. at the Peter Buckley Center to work on the charge and other items.
