The Linden City Council on Dec. 17 honored Sixth Ward Councilman John Francis Roman with a formal resolution and plaque recognizing his service since taking office Jan. 1, 2018. Mayor Derek Armstead read the resolution and said Roman "was a good councilman" who "responds to his constituents." The resolution was entered into the minutes and a copy was presented to Roman.
Roman addressed the council and guests, recalling local projects he helped advance and his motivation for public service. "I leave here knowing the sleepless nights, the hours of designing flyers, writing letters, mining the data, the 3 a.m. phone calls ... it was all worthwhile because I left the Sixth Ward of Linden in a better place than I found it," he said.
Council President Michelle Yamakaitis and other members thanked Roman for his work. The ceremony included short remembrances from colleagues and the presentation of a plaque listing his dates of service. The council did not take additional formal action tied to the recognition; the resolution will be entered into the official minutes as presented.
Looking ahead, the council did not announce a successor at the meeting; normal procedures for filling or running for the seat will follow the city's rules and election calendar.
