Council introduces ordinance to limit free special trash pickups to four per year

The Linden City Council introduced Ordinance 68-55 at its Nov. 19 meeting, a proposal to amend Chapter 16-2.5 (collection of garbage and refuse) to limit special trash pickups for single-family and residential property owners.
Under the introduced language, each single-family or residential property owner would be entitled to four scheduled trash pickups per calendar year and one additional special trash pickup at no charge. Any special trash pickup beyond five in a calendar year would require a fee of $150, payable before service. The ordinance text read at the meeting also states that the fee must be paid prior to the special trash pickup.
The measure was introduced, seconded and supported by roll-call for introduction; it was not adopted at first reading and will return for later consideration and a public hearing. Council members did not take public comment on the ordinance during the meeting. If adopted, the change would alter current curbside bulk trash service rules and could affect residents who regularly schedule additional pickups.
