The Linden City Council on Nov. 19 adopted a set of bond and traffic ordinances after public hearings that produced no public testimony.
The council approved a bond ordinance (68-49) appropriating $38,500 to buy a sport utility vehicle for the Board of Health and authorizing $36,575 in bonds or notes to finance part of the cost. Members also adopted Ordinance 68-50, a $737,000 appropriation for Linden–Roselle trunk sewer renovations that authorizes $700,150 in bonds or notes; and Ordinance 68-51, a $275,000 appropriation for police department capital improvements authorizing $261,250 in bonds or notes. A separate bond ordinance (referred to in the meeting as 68-52) earmarks $126,000 for improvements to Memorial Park and authorizes $62,700 in bonds or notes to finance part of that appropriation.
On traffic matters, council members adopted amendments to Chapter 7 of the Linden code adding new stop controls: Ordinance 68-53 adds a stop at Clinton Street and East Eleventh Street, and Ordinance 68-54 adds stop controls at Clinton Street and East Morris Avenue. Council members said the measures aim to reduce accidents and slow traffic at intersections residents have flagged.
All items on the package were confirmed as published and posted. No written communications or members of the public spoke on these ordinances during the hearings, and each hearing was closed by motion and carried by roll-call votes. The roll call in each adoption recorded "Yes" votes from the members present: Mrs. Orman; Councilman Barry E. Javic; Councilman Rivas; Councilman Roman; Councilman Strano; Mayor Armstead (when voting as a council member in these roll calls as recorded); Councilman Alfred Rodriguez; Councilman Hudak; and Mrs. Yamakaitis.
The ordinances will be reflected in the city’s capital plans and bond issuance schedule; the clerk’s office maintains the complete check registers, vouchers and ordinance files.
