The Erie City School District board on Dec. 3, 2025, held its annual reorganization meeting, swore in newly elected directors and selected board leadership for the year.

Dr. Brennaman was nominated and, after closed nominations, elected president in a roll-call vote. The board then elected Angie Amatangelo vice president in a separate roll-call election that passed 5–4. Board members also took the oath of office after certification from the Erie County Board of Elections that listed the November winners.

Why it matters: The president and vice president set the board’s meeting agendas and preside over deliberations; leadership choices shape committee assignments and public engagement as the district implements its strategic plan.

The meeting opened with the chair reading the official meeting notice and a roll call. Newly elected directors Jay Brennaman, Gary Horton, Leah Mirsky and Zachary Sharif were sworn in after the board secretary read the county certification of results.

After the oaths, nominations proceeded. John Harkins was elected temporary chair to preside over elections. Dr. Brennaman was nominated for president and, following a roll-call vote, was declared president. The roll-call recorded at least one “no” vote from Miss Cooley; the board declared the motion carried and Dr. Brennaman thanked colleagues and described his role as a facilitator to help the board execute its work.

For vice president, Angie Amatangelo and Zachariah Sharif were nominated. A roll-call tally recorded five votes for Amatangelo and four for Sharif; Amatangelo was declared vice president and thanked members, mentioning strategic-plan committee work.

Superintendent Dr. Gibbs offered remarks during the meeting and urged residents to participate in multiple upcoming listening sessions that will feed the district’s strategic plan.

The meeting concluded with brief administrative remarks, student recognition and an adjournment vote. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Dec. 10, 2025.
