City employees exceed United Way participation goal and set giving record

Cassandra Lockhart, the city's Organizational Advancement Administrator and campaign leader, told Lexington City Council on Oct. 14 that the 2023'24 employee United Way campaign exceeded its participation goal and set a giving record.
Lockhart said 158 city employees donated, lifting participation from 42.9% in the prior year to 64.4% as of Oct. 4, 2024, and reported a total of $69,895.18 in employee donations. Lockhart described outreach and equity measures taken during the campaign, including tiered time-off incentives designed to allow employees at different salary levels to participate without pressure, multiple kickoff meetings to reach different shifts (including sessions at the fire department), marketing and educational materials that explained how donations are invested by United Way's Community Investment Fund, and a campaign celebration open to all employees.
Lockhart credited long-time volunteers and staff coordinators for administrative work and thanked departments (police, fire, public services, parks and recreation, finance, HR and others) that supported the campaign. Council members thanked Lockhart and volunteers and noted the campaign's importance to partner agencies such as Davidson Medical Ministries.
What happens next: United Way and city campaign coordinators will complete final allocations and reporting through United Way's Community Investment Fund according to United Way procedures.
