The Sayreville business administrator announced that Congressman Pallone’s office has notified the borough it will receive a $1,560,000 grant to finalize engineering plans for the Weber Avenue tract and to bolster the borough’s ability to respond to future floodwaters.
“The last thing I have, mayor, it’s not on the agenda, but I'm pleased to inform you that we were notified by Congressman Palone's office that we were awarded a $1,560,000 grant, to finalize engineering plans to convert the Weber Avenue tract into a passive recreation facility and also to bolster our ability to fight back against floodwaters in the future,” the business administrator said during the meeting. The business administrator said the borough is now pursuing implementation grants and credited Councilmember Roberts for assistance in obtaining the funding.
Council members and the mayor thanked Councilmember Roberts and Congressman Pallone during the meeting. The business administrator said the engineering grant is a last-step award toward planning and that additional implementation grants will be sought to finance construction and mitigation work.
Next steps identified in the meeting record include continuing the application work for implementation grants and coordinating engineering planning under the scope described in the award notice.
