Council issues proclamations, hears public comment and makes appointments

At its April 14 meeting the Lexington City Council presented a proclamation to the Lexington Alumni Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., recognizing the chapter's 40th anniversary. The mayor also proclaimed April 2025 as Public Health Month and invited a Davidson County Health Department representative to accept the recognition.
During public comment, Janice Hurley, executive director of Davidson Medical Ministries/DC Connect, reported the organization received 100 referrals from the city in the second quarter and described community referral work. Patricia Rentrope, a new resident, raised questions about an expanding pipeline near the area and asked staff to consider placing a representative from Appalachian Voices on the May 12 agenda; staff said they would follow up.
Later in the meeting council reappointed Dan Briggs to the Lexington Local Firefighters Relief Fund Board and confirmed Councilman Welburn's placement on the Davidson County Home Solutions board. The council adopted the consent agenda, which included a resolution to apply for ARPA funding for solids-handling construction.
The manager reported that Fairview Drive expansion mobilization began and that staff are pursuing additional depot funding with NCDOT; the council adjourned by motion.
