Council sets Jan. 13 public hearing for voluntary annexation on Old Salisbury Road

City staff told the Lexington City Council on Nov. 25 that a petition for voluntary annexation for property along Old Salisbury Road met statutory requirements and that the city can provide services to the parcel.
Josh Monk, who presented the petition, said staff review confirmed the petition’s validity and recommended the council adopt Resolution 2024-036 to set a public hearing on Jan. 13, 2025. The petitioners were stated as William Dixon Robertson III (successor co-trustee) and Francis Robertson Butler (successor co-trustee).
Councilman Holloway moved to adopt the resolution; Councilman Wilburn seconded. The council approved the motion by voice vote and set the public hearing for Jan. 13, 2025. After the public hearing, council will consider adoption of an ordinance to complete the annexation process if it chooses to proceed.
Monk added that a nearby piece of property associated with US Foods may be better handled later by a voluntary annexation to clean up mapping discrepancies; staff said that could be brought back at a future meeting.
