Council adopts 2025 meeting schedule; mayor issues Operation Greenlight proclamation and recognizes barbecue festival volunteers

Lexington — The Lexington City Council unanimously adopted its 2025 regular meeting schedule on Oct. 28, confirming meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 6 p.m. in City Center Council Chambers, Room 119, at 200 North State Street.
Mr. Taylor presented the schedule and cited North Carolina statute and the city code requirement for an adopted calendar. Councilman Black moved to adopt the schedule and Councilman Holloway seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.
Mayor Jason Hayes used the recognitions portion of the agenda to thank city staff and partner agencies for their work on the 40th annual barbecue festival. He announced that Stephanie Saint Cygnasset received a key to the city for four decades of involvement and recognized Kay Saint Singh and Joe Sink Jr. for contributions to the festival’s Wall of Fame.
The mayor also read a proclamation declaring Operation Greenlight — a lighting initiative honoring active-service members transitioning to civilian life — to be observed Nov. 6 through 11/12/2024. The proclamation encouraged residents and businesses to display a green light in solidarity and acknowledged Councilman James Shores’ role in bringing the initiative to Davidson County.
Council also noted upcoming events including the Uptown Boo Bash, an Edward Jones ribbon cutting, the Veterans Day parade schedule that shifts the council’s November meeting to Nov. 12, and the Lexington Academy graduation on Nov. 14.
