Lexington HRC adopts 2025 schedule, launches community survey and reviews budget

At the Oct. 7 Lexington Human Relations Commission meeting, members adopted the proposed 2025 meeting schedule and approved procedural items before moving to staff reports and presentations.
Staff presented the proposed schedule: regular meetings the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m., an alternate date for September because of Labor Day, and no meetings in July or December. Commissioner Wells moved to adopt the schedule and Commissioner King seconded; the commission approved the schedule by voice vote.
Staff also reported that a community survey the commission approved at a prior meeting went live Oct. 1 and will remain open for six weeks, with a planned close date of Nov. 15. The survey is available on the city homepage, via QR code, and in printed form at City Center. Staff said they would compile results and distribute findings for discussion at the January meeting.
In the staff budget report, staff said the commission’s balance was $8,861.25, citing a $3,000 deduction for scholarships and roughly $136 spent on T-shirts; staff noted pending governance and bylaw updates and a statewide HRC DEI event in Salisbury on Nov. 12 (time and location to be confirmed). The meeting adjourned following reports and a DC Connect presentation.
