Residents press for clearer FAQs, wider survey and cultural context in Warner’s Pond process

A member of the public and several task force participants urged clearer public outreach, a neutral FAQ and a representative community-sentiment study to inform any recommendations to town meeting.

Mary Weinberg, who attended the meeting in person, offered printed copies of a 1983 West Concord report compiled by citizens and said the town-funded study has not been widely circulated; members agreed to locate and share the report. Later in the meeting, Anna Feldwick (Commonwealth Ave) requested a task force FAQ addressing core public questions — water quality, swimming advisability, drawdown impacts, dredging duration, dam age and costs — so future public meetings can be more productive.

Task force members discussed limitations of public meeting feedback (self-selection bias) and agreed that a short, quick-and-dirty but more representative study design could help the group understand town-wide awareness and concerns before a widely publicized proposal meeting. Malcolm Bryant offered to develop a survey framework and seek student or academic support; other members volunteered to be sounding-board reviewers. The group emphasized that any survey or outreach must be neutrally worded and avoid pre-framing decisions the community is not yet equipped to make.

Members also recommended tribal and archaeological consultation to capture cultural and historical perspectives related to the pond and dam site. The task force noted fisheries and technical presentations earlier in the process were recorded and will be available with the posted meeting video; the group signaled intent to prepare concise, agreed-upon FAQ answers prior to the next public meeting.
