Town staff told the Board of Health on Nov. 4 that Stop & Shop’s corporate policy change will remove tobacco sales from its Long Pond store (because that store has a pharmacy) while the Station Avenue location retains a tobacco permit. The change reduces the town’s capped number of tobacco permits from 28 to 27 when permits expire on Dec. 31.
Jay noted that Phil has already distributed next‑cycle tobacco applications and that several have been returned. The board said staff will confirm permit counts at the December or early‑January meeting and notify the board if the town’s cap has been formally reduced.
