Commission approves Frayer pool plan with condition to replace removed trees with similar species

On Nov. 7 the Yarmouth Conservation Commission approved a notice of intent for an in‑ground pool, patio, rinse station and shed replacement at 30 Moss Road, with a condition that the planting plan be revised to provide tree species with wildlife value similar to the trees being removed.
Thomas Mulcahy, the landscape designer for the Frayer family, said the proposed pool required removal of a combination of pine and oak trees; the plan shows replacement at a 1:1 ratio with 2 maples and 10 river birch. Concerned commissioners asked that some replacement plantings be oaks to better match the habitat value of the trees being removed, and the designer agreed to substitute some river birch with oak.
Commissioners also discussed site constraints, noting the pool location was chosen to avoid the existing septic system and to meet setback and pool code requirements. The commission approved the project with special conditions requiring a revised planting plan that reflects the discussed tree‑species substitutions and submission of digital and hard copies of the revised landscape sheet.
Next steps: applicant to file a revised planting plan showing the oak substitutions; staff will require both a digital copy and a hard copy of the landscape sheet for the record.
