Board grants 8-inch oversize sign for Root Bridal at Union Station Plaza

The Yarmouth Zoning Board of Appeals on Nov. 14 approved a variance allowing a 7-foot-8-inch carved sign at 23 Whites Path, where Root Bridal (doing business as Root Bridal Esoterix LLC) recently relocated. Applicant Holly Lemieux told the board she paid about $2,600 for the sign and would face a financial hardship to replace or shorten it.
Board members asked whether the shopping-center management supported the request; the meeting record includes a written authorization from Julie Manchester, manager of Union Station Plaza, indicating that the landlord (Oscar Taylor’s LLC) permits the tenant to seek a permit for the existing sign. The board described the deviation as de minimis and found no evidence that granting the variance would undermine the bylaw’s intent. The motion to grant the variance passed unanimously.
Planning staff reminded the applicant that the decision is subject to the standard 20-day appeal period and advised how to proceed with the building-permit application and recording requirements.
