Comcast says fiber construction will reach Preston in weeks, aims to complete by end of 2025

Comcast representatives briefed Preston City Council on a planned fiber-to-the-premises build that the company said will connect every home in the city.

A company presenter said Comcast was awarded roughly $9.8 million from a state capital projects fund and has started construction from the south, planning to bring fiber through to the north. "We started construction... Our goal is to have the project completed by the end of 2025," the representative said, and added the company expects to turn up the first homes in early 2025.

Comcast described the project as a full fiber network providing multi-gig symmetrical services. The company said it will use a mix of aerial and underground construction to match existing infrastructure and noted that pole replacements and power-company coordination are on the critical path. A Comcast community-impact representative also offered to explore local partnerships and funding assistance for community programs, noting Comcast's national Project UP commitment and past in-kind and cash giving.

Councilmembers asked about channel availability, franchise fees and timing; Comcast said franchise-fee arrangements remain in place (a percentage of cable revenue) and that thousands of channels and major networks would be available to Xfinity customers. Staff requested a phased construction plan to share with residents; Comcast agreed to provide a build-phase calendar.

No formal city action was taken; council thanked the company and said staff would coordinate on permitting and any community-impact proposals.
