Commissioners approve corrected change order that cuts Jack Brooks taxiway contract by $622,967

Unidentified presiding official said the commissioners’ court approved a rescission of Change Order No. 2 and a corrected Change Order No. 2 for the Invitation for Bid (IFB) for Taxiway A rehabilitation at Jack Brooks Regional Airport, which reduced the contract by $622,967.10.
“The net of final quantities for concrete pavement removal, marking removal, lime, concrete pavement, poured, sodding, boring, and duct bank” lowered the total contract “from $6,507,736.10 down to $5,884,769,” the official said during the Oct. 22 meeting. The transcript identifies the contractor as Bridal Construction LLC and notes the project was originally awarded on Aug. 23, 2022.
The court recorded that the project is 100% funded by the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program (grant number 37). Commissioners briefly questioned the reduction and discussed that final quantities and any liquidated damages would be verified by a third party. One commissioner asked, “How much work is performed? Liquidated damages that was in the contract for their lack of performance,” and was told final quantities and reductions are part of the verification process.
The presiding official called for and received a motion to load the purchasing items; the motion was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote.
The commissioners did not direct additional staff work on the contract during the meeting. The most recent formal action recorded in the transcript was the court’s approval of the corrected change order. The project remains an FAA Airport Improvement Project and, per the court record, is funded by federal grant money.
