Jefferson County commissioners approve lease extension, grants, donations and temporary roadway use

The Jefferson County Commissioners Court approved a series of routine purchasing, auditing and intergovernmental items at a regularly scheduled meeting, including a five‑year lease extension for properties acquired through buyouts and an engineering‑services selection committee for a Department of Agriculture Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program.

The court moved to approve a lease extension for buyout properties for a five‑year term running from 09/16/2024 to 09/15/2029 and advanced several purchasing items. The presiding officer said the selection committee for CDBG engineering services will include a commissioners court member and legal and environmental participation was requested; the presiding officer named "Rhonda" to the committee during discussion.

A representative of the Young Men's Business League (YMBL) addressed the court about rental payments for use of Ford Park Fairgrounds and Complex, saying, "The enclosed 197,337 payments fulfill our obligation to stipulate in our agreement. This payment along with the 25,000 made to Jefferson County on April 30 brings our total payment to Jefferson we're payments to Jefferson County have been over 3,300,000." The court accepted the YMBL payment and executed paperwork to receive a lease (CL950002) between the Texas General Land Office and Jefferson County for Mesquite Point Boat Ramp and Piers.

The court approved out‑of‑state travel for crime‑lab staff Tiffany Aardahl and Amy Comer to attend the annual clandestine lab investigating chemist conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sept. 3–6. The presiding officer said the trip is funded by the Coverdell grant awarded to the lab and will be at no cost to the county.

Sheriff's department items included a resolution authorizing the county judge to apply for 2024–25 rural county law enforcement project funding through the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts (no local match required) and acceptance of donated equipment valued at $6,327.51 from Americansnipers.org. During discussion a speaker warned about allowable uses for related law enforcement funding under "Senate Bill 22," saying the money is "very specific on what law enforcement...things that you can use it for," and urged care to avoid using funds for items not covered by statute. The court carried the grant authorization and accepted the donation.

Engineering presented and the court approved a temporary roadway agreement with Air Liquide Large Industries USLP for the temporary use of a county field road that runs parallel to Highway 69 Feeder Road to support a pipeline access project in Precinct 2.
