Jefferson County commissioners unanimously approve routine contracts, hiring and plat and name visitor center conference room for Beverly Parker

Jefferson County's Commissioners Court met July 9, 2024, and approved a series of routine procurement, personnel and planning items in unanimous votes, and named the Visitor Center conference room for Doctor Beverly Parker.
The action items began when the presiding official turned the agenda over to Commissioner Erickson, who opened the purchasing section and presented several items. The court approved awarding pest-control services to Massey Services Inc.; an amendment to janitorial services reducing service days at the Shorty Woods Mid-County office building (7933 Vitterbeau Road) and the Mid County Tax Office (4605 Jerry Ware Drive) with Southeast Texas Building Service, Inc., effective July 15, 2024; a three-year renewal subscription with Fifth Asset, Inc. (DBA Debt Book) for $33,700.31 for the Auditing Department (effective 10/01/2024–10/01/2027); and release of a $261,830.94 payment application (No. 11) to N and T Construction for the Jerry Ware terminal and aircraft firefighting station rehabilitation, a project the court said is 100% funded by the Federal Aviation Administration Airport Improvement Program. After motions and seconds, the court voted unanimously on the purchasing package. In the court's words during the meeting, "The ayes have it. It's unanimous."
Under county-auditor business the court approved a $2,000 budget transfer for Constable Precinct 2 travel expenses; received and filed a revised public defender contract for the criminal district court with David Grove (effective July 1, 2024); and approved routine county bills (checks 518930 through 519109). Those items were also approved by unanimous vote.
The court approved naming the conference room at the Jefferson County Visitor Center the "Doctor Beverly Parker Conference Room" in recognition of Parker's long service as chairperson of the Jefferson County Tourism Commission. Community members and officials spoke in favor of the recognition during an other-business segment and public remarks. "My name is Dolores D. Richard Jacobs," one attendee said, "I was one of the people that recommended that you have this put into our boardroom in honor of Doctor Beverly Parker, and we just want to say thank you all."
The court approved hiring Cassandra Scott as a full-time deputy constable for Constable Precinct 1 in accordance with Local Government Code chapter 86.011. Engineering department items approved included a minor plat dividing a 13-acre tract (the Lucquette addition) on State Highway 124 in Precinct 3 that the county said met county platting requirements, and execution of utility permit 07U24 with AT and T and Byers Engineering Company for approximately 100 feet of fiber-optic cable along Smith Road near Kidd Road in Precinct 4. Both engineering items passed unanimously.
The meeting concluded with the judge and commissioners noting the end of the agenda and taking no additional action on items not listed for consideration. The court did not record any contested votes or formal disagreements on the floor during the session.
