Committee advances bill eliminating salesperson license fee, creating automotive education grant fund
Summary
The Senate Transportation Committee passed an amended HB 1355 that removes salesperson licensing fees for vehicle and RV sales and creates an automotive technologist education grant fund using commission fund balances, excess revenue and donations, with reporting to the Legislative Council.
An amended House bill that would eliminate vehicle salesperson licensing fees and set up a new grant fund to support automotive workforce training passed the Senate Transportation Committee on a voice vote.
Unidentified Sponsor, presenting HB 13 55, said the bill “does two things”: it removes salesperson licensing fees for automobile and recreational-vehicle sales and establishes an automotive technologist education grant program to finance training. The sponsor told the committee the amendment also updated the program’s name and laid out reporting requirements to the Arkansas Legislative Council to ensure oversight.
