Committee approves cleanup to CDL renewal training requirement for human-trafficking awareness

Senator Stearch presented Senate Bill 1425 on behalf of Representative Gray and himself, describing the measure as "cleanup language" to ease unintended burdens from a change made two years ago requiring a human-trafficking course for CDL renewals.
Senator Stearch said the intent was not to require repeated coursework at every four-year renewal for drivers who have already completed the training. "As long as they've taken the course once, they would not have to do it every time every 4 years that they renew their CDL license," he said.
No members of the public signed up to testify. Senator Hill moved to pass the bill and Senator Davis seconded; the committee approved SB 1425 on a voice vote. The committee adjourned after completing business.
The change would reduce recurring training burdens for commercial drivers who have already completed the required human-trafficking awareness course, while leaving the underlying training requirement in place for new or noncompliant licensees.
